DIY Christmas Gift for the Grandparents

I love a cute tea towel and think they make nice gifts.  So recently I tried experimenting with decorating my own towels.  For the below project I used a white tea towel, screen printing paint, fabric pen, tracing carbon paper for fabric and a printout of my daughters silhouette.  All of these items can be purchased at a craft store.  You could probably also create this project by simply printing your silhouette on iron on transfer paper.

STEPS

1. My first step was to print out the silhouette at the size I wanted for the tea towel.  If you need a silhouette of your child created you can find them at A Moment Remembered

2.  Iron out the wrinkles of your towel.

3.  Place your towel on a hard surface.  Place the tracing paper on top of the towel where you would like your design to appear.  Then layer the printout of your silhouette on top of the tracing paper.

4.  Pressing firmly with a pen, trace your design onto the towel.

5.  Once you have an outline you can work with, use the fabric pen to trace the edges of your design.  Then move on to the fabric paint and fill in the design.

6.  Follow any other specific instructions for your paint.  Let the paint dry and wash towel according to paint directions.

Finish your tea towel with a cute Christmas gift tag and it's the perfect stocking stuffer.

Happy Crafting!

The Apple Orchard

It's been a long time dream of mine to own an apple tree.  I don't know why really, perhaps it's simply because I like the idea of being able to step out of my house and pick a ripe, juicy apple fresh off of the tree. Someday I will make this dream a reality, but in the meantime I settled for the next best thing, going to an apple orchard with my girls.

It's funny how much I find myself depending on other people...I almost didn't go to the orchard this year...again, because well I couldn't find anyone to go with.  The thought of driving a long distance alone with the girls seemed daunting, let alone handling two little ones by myself once I got there.  But something inside of me this year just said to hell with it!  I'am not letting another fall go by with me just thinking about it, I was going to do it.

I'm glad I did.

Heading to pick apples from the wrong (unripe) tree's.

We had a great time, it didn't matter that half the apples we picked were from the unripened side of the orchard.  They still tasted sweet to us.

Some of the apples were as big as little bits head!

Raspberry Picking

Summer berry picking is a great activity for the whole family.  We've gone now every year since Addie turned 1 year old.  It's pretty relaxing, the kids have fun and enjoy eating the berries, you're out doors and in the end you have a ton of fresh berries to enjoy.

It's also fun to argue about who picked the most berries in the end.  My husband would say he did all the work while I took pictures, Addie danced and played in the dirt and Alice munched on berries.

He's probably right.
